Research Presentation Critiques

Now that many people have given their presentations in class it has become more clear what works and what does not work. One positive thing done in the presentations so far are that many groups described the pros and cons of their topic which helps people become aware of the downfalls of certain technology. Another positive thing is that many groups have been describing how their topic relates to teaching and how we can use certain technologies in the classroom. A third positive is that most groups kept text on the PowerPoint slides to a minimum and refrained from reading from the slide.

There were also negatives to each presentation. One of the most common negatives was the activity was ineffective. Some activities were ineffective because they didn't show how the technology was better than the old fashioned way of doing things and another common mistake is that there was not enough time given for the class to do the activity. A second common negative is that there were too many words on some slides and it distracted the class. A third common negative is that the slides were too blank and a graphic would have made the slide look much better.

I also learned a lot about the content through the presentations. One thing I learned is that Ipod touches are becoming more common in schools now, and they have many apps that will help students learn. Another thing I learned is that teachers must be careful when posting pictures of students online, and they must have parent permission to do so. A third thing I learned is that many schools use Internet filters to block certain websites, but the filters do not block all inappropriate websites so the teacher must still monitor the students Internet use.

I do not have any suggestions for the research presentation and I would not change the assignment.

Reflection #1

Hello! My name is Alicia Otto and I am a freshman at Bowling Green State University. I am an early childhood education major and I am from Dayton, Ohio. Today is my nineteenth birthday! On this day, 19 years ago I was born during the third quarter of the Superbowl. I am a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and through that sorority I hold two leadership positions. The first position is chaplain. As chaplain my job is to end chapter with a happy quote and lead prayer at certain event. The second leadership position I hold is Girl Scout Chair. As Girl Scout Chair I set up a girl scout troop at Ridge Elementary and I plan all of the troop meetings and activities. Tonight, is the parents meeting and Thursday is the very first troop meeting! I am very excited to finally have the troop up and running!
